Pathology, Anatomical Pathology

Marie-Pierre Junier’s interest in brain neoplasms developed as a natural extension of fundamental research studies aiming at deciphering the role of neuron-glia interactions during development and neurodegenerative diseases. Following studies of the role of troubles of glial cell differentiation in cancerous transformation, she created with Dr. H Chneiweiss the team “Glial plasticity and neuro-oncology” located in the Neuroscience laboratory of the Institute of Biology Paris Seine Institute (IBPS). The team project questions the dynamics of tumor cell functional heterogeneity, and its impact on malignant glioma growth.

Dr. Qing Kay Li is an associate professor of Departments of Pathology and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She has the American Board of Pathology certification in anatomic and clinical pathology, and subspecialty certification in cytopathology. Her areas of clinical expertise include surgical pathology, cytopathology, and oncological pathology. Dr. Li is also a faculty member and co-PI at the Johns Hopkins Biomarker Discovery Center. Her research interests is focusing on the application of advanced cellular and molecular techniques to the field of cytopathology and cancer biology, particularly in the field of early detection of lung and prostate cancer. Dr. Li serves as editorial board members for several journals; committee members of the American Society of Cytopathology, Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology, NIH/NCI lung cancer and kidney cancer working group; study sections of government agents and private organizations. She has more than 120 publications, including several book chapters and books. She has served as a keynote speaker at national and international meetings.

Zahra Maleki is an assistant professor of pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her areas of clinical expertise include surgical pathology and cytopathology. Her priority as a clinician and pathologist is to serve the patients by performing both fine needle aspirations and on site evaluations of specimen adequacy, and providing an accurate, timely diagnosis. She teaches and mentors fellows, residents, and students at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from Shaheed Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She performed her first fellowship at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in pathology and a second fellowship in cytopathology at the University of Miami.

Dr. Maleki's research interests include head/neck and lung neoplasms & Translational studies in lung neoplasms. She is investigating the role of human papilloma virus (HPV) in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas.

Peter Stoemmer has studied medicin at the university of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany and completed his MD, PhD and specialisation as general pathologist (including cytopathology and molecular pathology) at the age of 36 years) from Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen; after postdoctoral studies from Yale University School of Medicine in the laboratory of Juan Rosai and the supervision of A.B. He is the director and partner of Pathologie Augsburg, an independent Laboratory for surgical Pathology. He is senior lecturer and professor at the institute of pathology at the Friedrich Alexander university and published more than 125 papers in journals

Maria Teresa Mascellino has completed her MD at the age of 25 years in Rome during the period of 1980 and specialization studies in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases from Sapienza University of Rome (Italy). She works as aggregate professor in the Department of Public Health and Infectious Diseases at Sapienza University of Rome. She is responsible of the Simple Operative Unit “Microbiological analyses in the immunocompromised hosts” and tutor of students and residents at the Department of Infectious Diseases. The main research field is actually the study of some microorganisms involved in human pathology focusing on MDR microorganisms such as KPC Klebsiella, Acinetobacter baumannii and Helicobacter pylori as well as Candida and on antibiotics activity. She has published other than 100 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of repute. She is editor of the book “Bacterial and Mycotic infections in immunocompromised hosts: microbiological and clinical aspects” ISBN:978-1-63278-005-8. She is a reviewer for many important scientific international Journals and Research Projects from Ministry of University and Scientific Research. She has attended many national and international Conferences as speaker presenting relevant research topics. She is member of scientific societies as ESCMID, ASM, New York Academy of Science

Graciela Ghirardi Awarded by the Council of Physicians of the Province of Córdoba. Certification for life, February 22, 2013 as “Specialist in Pathological Anatomy”. She was the Head of Pathology Anatomy at Hospital Córdoba Hospital for 13 years and she served as the President Gremial Hospital Córdoba for 3 Periods. She has Publication in book Poems "Sendas" in the year 2009.

Dariusz Borys is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Orthopaedic Surgery, head of Orthopaedic and Pediatric Pathology and Director of Digital Pathology at Loyola University Chicago. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Wroclaw, Poland in 1994 and completed a residency program in anatomic pathology at County General Hospital in Wroclaw, Poland in 1995. He completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona in 1998. He continued on with and completed residency training in both anatomic pathology and clinical pathology at University of Illinois at Chicago in 2001. He received a Pediatric Pathology Fellowship at New York University, New York, New York in 2005 and followed that with an Orthopedic Pathology Fellowship at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York, New York in 2006. After completing his fellowships, Dr. Borys become faculty member in the rank of assistant professor at University of California and then he finally moved to Loyola University Chicago in 2013. At LUMC he is appointed as an Associate Professor of Pathology and Orthopaedic Surgery and is serving as the head of orthopaedic and pediatric pathology and director of digital pathology. Currently Dr. Borys' research focuses on the molecular markers in diagnostic, prognostic and targeted therapy in osteosarcoma.

Dr. Antic is an Associate Professor and the Director of Cytopathology at the University of Chicago, USA. She is fellowship trained in genitourinary pathology and cytopathology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and is a certified member of American Board of Pathology and Cytopathology. She oversees the Cytopathology Fellowship program at the University of Chicago and has mentored several fellows over the past several years. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology CheckPath Committee and the chair of American Society of Cytopathology Clinical Practice Committee. She has published over 70 research papers in various peer-reviewed top-rated journals including the American Journal of Surgical Pathology and Nature. In addition, she has written several book chapters and authored a book titled “Renal Neoplasms: an Integrative Approach to Cytopathologic Diagnosis” published in 2014. Dr. Antic’s research interest is in the area of kidney and urothelial carcinoma.
